The idea
We are a minor Asian ethnic community consisting of 1000 people. Our organisation started in 2006 and is running as a non-profitable company in Crawley which consists of a school with more than 150 students as well as our 30 volunteers who dedicate their valuable time on educating the language Tamil and other activities such as, Yoga ,Badminton, Chess, music (Carnatic music), and keyboard, for the children and adults. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we have had to close our School which regrettably stopped all students and adults being active on the Saturday, we have tried our upmost efforts in keeping touch with everyone making sure their physical and mental well beings are safe. We are continuously encouraging them to continue learning Tamil and engage in activities within the government guidelines. However, we have not been able to contact every students due to lack of resources available at the school.
What we'll deliver
- Exercices classes for adults and young people to get involved with
- Vulnerable people being assisted by volunteers
- A chance to learn a new language and its culture
Why it's a great idea
The funding will support more of our parents, students and all community to get socially active. Furthermore, to build this movement, we wish to expand our influence among everyone. By running the organisation for free we are also hoping this new initiative will encourage students and parents who never attended the organisation to experience all activities that take place within the school. We are currently doing some lessons and activities via online. Once it is safe to start our organisation again we will be having lessons and indoor activities at the school venue every Saturday with social distancing measures. When it is safe to do so, we will be hiring the school playing fields and organising a bigger outdoor activity day and culture day. Within our community and other communities there are many vulnerable elderly people, as a good will
gesture we will be helping out with their shopping, getting around the area and getting back into their everyday life.
