The idea

The Parents and Friends Association (PFA) is a fundraising charity and support organisation for the Special Support Centre (SSC) which is based at Desmond Anderson Primary Academy in Crawley West Sussex. The SSC is dedicated to the education and development of children with autism throughout the area.

We would like to submit a request for donation related to the project of replacing the climbing frame. All the children in the SSC have processing disorder, so time outdoors to ‘burn off steam’ is vitally important to them.

The current frame was funded initially in 2006. It has been used extremely intensively by the children over the years. It became dangerous due to rotten wood, it has literally worn out, it is spongy.

Wooden play equipment usually lasts 10 years and our frame will be 14 years old this summer. We are considering closing the frame for safety reasons.

The climbing frame is now in need of replacement, at a cost of about £4,500.
