The idea
SPID Theatre is based in the community rooms of Kensal House, a Grade II* modernist estate in Ladbroke Grove. To celebrate its long awaited refurbishment, the award winning charity wants to run a free program of youth and community activities sharing social housing's history.
The refurbishment will the 1930s Community Rooms and providing access for all, disabled or otherwise, with a new lift and sloping corridor will . Ancient electrics will be replaced and heritage features reinstated. Backstage will be equipped for new activities, including free drama, heritage, sports, filmmaking, homework clubs, paid work placements, new jobs, and free business mentoring.
SPID have campaigned for fifteen years to restore and make safe our dilapidated building. We have raised the funding for the refurbishment and the activities. Our target is to raise the funds for additional staff to deliver the activities.

Why it's a great idea
Community Hub : a program of free weekly activity sessions including tai chi, homework club, cooking and youth drama .
-Youth Shows and Youth Films: a program of free weekly sessions to help young people make youth shows and films.
-Celebrate Social Housing: a program of free weekly activities to create magazines, pamphlets and tours celebrating council estate life.
-Space Share : the opportunity for local people of all ages to use the community rooms for crime-deterring communal events like parties, wakes, rehearsals and neighbourhood meetings.
-Security : sufficient staffing to manage the community centre safely full time and make it available fully available.
