We run a permanent clothing swap, and something we see a lot of is t-shirts with dated prints on them. We want to bring them back to life and promote a local circular economy at our 'Casual-TEE Ward'
The Change Clothes Crumlin 'Casual-tee Ward' will turn tired old printed t-shirts into, re-newed product for re-sale. Here's how it will work: 1. T-shirts are received through our permanent swap shop 2. Print is removed by the CCC team using a non-toxic print dissolvant 3. The t-shirt is washed using a foot powered washing machine (zero energy used) 4. Our 'Second Hand is F****n Grand' slogan is screen printed onto the t- shirt using water soluble dyes 5. The t-shirt is air dried 6. And finally, listed for re-sale on our website 7. T shirt's will cost €10 8. All profits made will go towards Change Clothes Crumlin's local clothing reuse programmes (swap, rental, mending, upcycling) We promise to do our absolute best to: 1. Ensure a wide range of sizes are available 2. Ensure a wide range of colours are available 3. Make sure the process is social - we will invite local people to take part in the production process 4. Let everyone in Crumlin know that second hand is f****n grand!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Our project will have a tonne of positive impacts for the Crumlin community, namely: > The provision of affordable, sustainable, locally upcycled apparel > Piloting of creative and social, first of it's kind project supported by a community of local volunteers > Working towards creating a local circular economy where less clothing leaves the area for landfill and/or export > Profits made from the sale of t shirts going towards supporting a circular community enterprise in Crumlin > If this pilot is successful, there is great potential for job creation in a local circular economy initiative
Steps to get it done:
Our slogan at Change Clothes Crumlin is 'Second Hand is F****n Grand', and we live this through offering a permanent clothing swap shop, second hand rental service and upcycling/mending workshops. Swappers have often asked us when we're going to get our slogan printed on t-shirts. After considering it for a brief moment, we realised that printing onto new items of clothing went totally against our core value of buying 'nothing new'. That's how the idea of the 'Casual-TEE Ward' was born - a local and social initiative that will breathe new life into tired old t-shirts destined for the clothing bank. It is our hope that if this pilot initiative is successful, we will be able to scale up locally to create a self-sustaining community project that prevents massive amounts of clothing being exported abroad to become another countries problem.

Hi everybody, Thanks so much to those who joined us for our t-shirt reuse workshops yesterday, we had great craic and lots of cool pieces were produced. Off the back of that, we're pleased to launch our free, downloadable t-shirt reuse resource which is now available here: https://www.changeclothes.org/resources/ Thank you again for supporting this pilot project. If you have yet to claim your free swap vouchers in return for your donation, there's still time! Get in touch with me at [email protected] and I'll sort that out. Mary xo
Hi all, I hope you're keeping well and that you had a nice, sunny weekend. As noted in my last update, we didn't quite manage to produce a line of cleaned and re-printed t-shirts, but we have been working on other solutions. I'm delighted to share that we are putting a handy little toolkit together, full of different creative ways you can reuse t-shirts that have a big rotten logo on them, or are maybe just a little dated. As a supporter of this project, I'd love for you to join us for the launch of the toolkit on Sunday June 2nd at our Crumlin Studio. We'll be running a number of fun workshops throughout the day and as a project backer you can have all the access you like to our range of swapped clothes. Here's the registration link: https://www.changeclothes.org/event-details-registration/free-t-shirt-reuse-workshops ALSO, N.B: If you haven't yet claimed your CCC voucher to the value of your donation, please do get in touch with [email protected]. Thanks as always, Mary
Hello backers, It's me...again. Thanks for your patience. I've been working away in the background trying to get the t-shirts up to a certain standard, but I'm not happy at all with how they're turning out. Plastisol remover does take certain types of print off, but I've also had to invest in accetone to remove some types of print, -and an unsightly residue is often left on the t shirts. The fact that the t-shirts aren't looking great, coupled with the reality that it takes a few hours to do one single t-shirt, means this pilot project has been a failure. Woops, lesson learned. Thanks so much for your backing of this and I'm really sorry the outcome isn't a more positive one. The next step is one of 2 things: A) We can transfer your donation back ASAP. Please email [email protected] with your IBAN and we'll sort that in the coming week. B) You can receive an online voucher for CCC to the value of what you pledged. These can be used against swaps, workshops, and rentals and can be trasnferred to anyone you choose if you don't want to use them yourself. Email [email protected] to receive your code. Thanks again for your support, it means a lot to us :) Mary @ Change Clothes
Hi all, A quick update on our t-shirt reuse project as I realised I hadn't updated in a month. We received all the equipment and we've been busy trying out different methods of print removal using environmentally-friendly print dissolver. Some have been successful, and some absolutely disastrous and stinking. We've also been playing around with printing, exploring lino-cut and block printing options. We should have our first t-shirts up for grabs on our website in the next few weeks. We'll offer each financial backer an online voucher to the value of your contribution. If you don't see anything you like in the first release, there will of course be more coming shortly after! I'm at [email protected] if you have any questions or queries in the meantime. Thanks a thousand, Mary
Hi everyone, I hope you're having a nice January (oxymoron?). I just wanted to let you know that we've received the project funds to our account today and we're excited to get started with purchasing equipment and getting our production process in order. All going to plan, we should have the first batch t-shirts available in late Feb/early March. As always, thanks so much for your support. All the best, Mary
Dear supporters, Thanks to your belief in and support of our idea - the CCC CasualTEE Ward is fully funded! This means we'll be getting our pilot t-shirt reuse project up and running in January 2024 and we're very excited to get cracking. We're going to take a quick break for the Christmas holliers now, but will be back in touch with progress updates in early 2024. We hope to have the first t-shirts available by late February, all going well. Have a great break and thanks again for your support, it means the world to us. xoxo CCC
