We will offer workshops, productions and events for local children, young people and families in schools, community settings and at Burnley Youth Theatre. Activities will be linked with BYT’s history as we celebrate our 50th year.
YOUTH THEATRE
-Local people will come together for a Summer Showcase day of workshops, performances and the launch of our Heritage Trail
-Participants will take part in a week of workshops to learn all about carnival/street theatre
-Participants will make a time capsule which will be buried and opened in 50 years
SCHOOLS
-5 primary schools will work with an artist to create willow structures of famous characters from BYT’s productions archive which will be installed in a Heritage Trail around our site
-4 secondary schools will receive a piece of touring theatre, performed by our Young Archivists group
COMMUNITY
-5 community groups will take part in Sharing Stories workshops which will explore BYT’s history as well as reflecting on their own stories
What we'll deliver:
- Summer Showcase day-a large outdoor event at BYT with creative workshops and performances from children and young people
- Heritage Trail - installation of a forest trail around the BYT site celebrating famous characters from our archive
- Carnival Summer Week- workshops to learn carnival /street theatre, engaging with BYT's past links with Welfare State
- Time Capsule - BYT participants all contribute to a time capsule which will be buried and opened on BYT's 100 birthday
- Schools Art Project - 5 primary schools will work with a willow weaver to create 10 sculptures for our Heritage Trail
- Theatre Tour - 4 secondary schools will receive a piece of theatre linked to BYT's history of theatre for social change
- Sharing Stories-5 community groups will take part in workshops to explore BYT's history and reflect on their own stories
- Access - we will provide access support to anyone in need inc. transport, food, free tickets, translators, 121 support
Why it's a great idea:
The project will bring many benefits to local children, young people and families. It will extend the experiences of people already involved with Burnley Youth Theatre and bring new experiences to the wider community who may not have accessed the arts before. More specific benefits will include:
