Celebrating 50 Years of BYT published their Delivery Report!10 months ago
A programme of cultural events, creative activities and community celebrations for local children, young people and families to reflect on and celebrate 50 years of Burnley Youth Theatre.
We will offer workshops, productions and events for local children, young people and families in schools, community settings and at Burnley Youth Theatre. Activities will be linked with BYT’s history as we celebrate our 50th year. YOUTH THEATRE -Local people will come together for a Summer Showcase day of workshops, performances and the launch of our Heritage Trail -Participants will take part in a week of workshops to learn all about carnival/street theatre -Participants will make a time capsule which will be buried and opened in 50 years SCHOOLS -5 primary schools will work with an artist to create willow structures of famous characters from BYT’s productions archive which will be installed in a Heritage Trail around our site -4 secondary schools will receive a piece of touring theatre, performed by our Young Archivists group COMMUNITY -5 community groups will take part in Sharing Stories workshops which will explore BYT’s history as well as reflecting on their own stories

The project will bring many benefits to local children, young people and families. It will extend the experiences of people already involved with Burnley Youth Theatre and bring new experiences to the wider community who may not have accessed the arts before. More specific benefits will include: PARTICIPANTS - Build confidence and self esteem - Build transferable skills inc. leadership, planning and team work - Develop creative skills - performance skills, writing, art, backstage - Engage with the heritage of Burnley Youth Theatre and learn more about local history WIDER COMMUNITY - Bring diverse communities together - Building a relationships with local people and giving them a sense of place and belonging - Give new opportunities and experiences to people who may not have accessed the arts before - Provide volunteer opportunities for local people - Create an outdoor space for local people to spend time and enjoy nature

VolunteerBurnley Youth Theatre was set up in 1973 and has grown into a vibrant, innovative charity which engages over 6500 children, young people and families per year through five strands; Youth Theatre, Professional Productions, Outreach, Education and Training. Our mission is to 'creatively inspire young people to take their next steps' and we use drama and the arts to develop local people to ensure they are confident, healthy, resilient and ready for the future. Our keys aims are:
To enable ALL children, young people and families to create, participate in and watch quality theatre
To allow ALL children, young people and families to realise their potential, develop their life skills and enhance their quality of life
To embrace and celebrate diversity and equality, ensuring our organisation is representative of our local community and contemporary England
To promote best practice in the safeguarding of young people, vulnerable adults, staff and volunteers.
We are running this campaign to raise money to deliver an exciting programme of activity to celebrate Burnley Youth Theatre turning 50. The organisation has developed so much over the past 50 years and we are now recognised as one of the most significant providers of youth arts in the country. We want to celebrate this growth and achievement by reflecting on our past and looking towards our future. Reaching our goal of £20,000 will help us to work with our current participants in new and exciting ways as well as engage with local schools and communities, who might not otherwise have access to creative activities. We have already received funding from Heritage Lottery Fund to support the staffing and resources of this project but we are now asking our supporters to help us fund the creative activity which will have a real impact on local people.
Project Owner: Burnley Youth Theatre The Project Owner takes legal responsibility for receiving and spending the funds raised and ensuring the project is delivered.
