We have been bowled over by the number of mutual aid groups and volunteers who are working round the clock to help those who are more vulnerable.
The Council has already provided £58,000 to groups across the Borough to help with things like purchasing food for food banks, home deliveries of essential supplies and telephone support for people with Mental Health issues.
We know that many of our residents want to help others in their communities but may not be able to do so in the ways they normally would due to social distancing measures, so we have set up the Broxtowe Community Appeal as a way for them to do this.
Anyone who would like to and is able to assist can donate via this page.
The Broxtowe Community Appeal is being run through Spacehive, a crowdfunding site for local projects. Spacehive is completely independent from the Council and residents who wish to use the site should take care to read the privacy policy at www.spacehive.com/privacypolicy before donating.
What we'll deliver:
- Funding for local food banks to buy more food
- Funding for mutual aid and community groups to help them deliver essentials like food and medicine
- Funding for groups offering initiatives like befriending and mental health support
Why it's a great idea:
Many of these community and voluntary groups provide an essential lifeline to all year round, but ensure they have enough funding to continue has never more importantly than during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Steps to get it done:
Broxtowe Borough Council will allocate the funds raised to community and voluntary groups who request support.
