Creating a springboard for a locally led recovery and re-imagination of the North of Tyne
The Brick Works supports practitioners for the creative industries by providing affordable studio space and related accommodation and we want to share art with everyone. We want to bring a large scale wall mural to life to encourage people to explore the edges of the Ouseburn and beyond. Working with Wonderstuff (design agency) and local artist (Ash Willerton), all agreed that The Brick Works building would benefit from an artistic intervention and that this site at the edge of the Ouseburn would be suited to a mural. The project will elevate the local area and further position The Ouseburn as a place for independent and cultural businesses to flourish.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We believe art and culture is a great way to engage the community, brighten up public space, stimulate footfall, and install a sense of civic pride. Through the public art project, we intend to use the vote as a way to ask the community their aspirations for their local area, which can inform ideas for other projects and encourage more independent businesses to consider Ouseburn as their home, improving the area for residents, local businesses and visitors alike.
