Local people creating projects that make Southwark fantastic place to live, work and relax.
We're doing well, we're a small bunch of committed volunteers, in 2018 some of us will have been at it for 12 years, we must be delivering something right. We drag the high end restaurants that line the street, down into a park, they prepare pocket money value boxes of their main menu and share with the Community as a whole. We add a music stage populated by South London musicians, some locally brewed beer and a great time is had by all. The weather on the day, is unusually kind to us, that's a relationship we're keen on developing. It all started with a boutique dog collar shop hosting a dog show, a couple of stalls and a maypole. The Dog Show lives on, as does the Maypole and we've many more stalls reflecting local business and craft. Year on year we build and become better, more inclusive, more diverse, more intent on building a cohesive event that truly represents the community. In 2017 we welcomed in excess of 13,000 visitors. We're back on the 15th September 2018.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We like to think London Bridge Station sits in the shadow of Bermondsey Street, an area which scored 60% in the 2010 IMD measures, yet buts up to areas that scored 10%. We take great pride in the way that we just mix it all up and deliver a great day. Our Security Manager reckons we're second to Notting Hill when it comes to London Street Events, whether that's true or not, if you ignore the odd lost child or dog, we have no crime or disorderly behaviour to report, a record we're keen on retaining. The Community here continues to develop, we lose old Industrial sites to new housing, properties that nestle up to existing social housing stock. The increasing commercialisation of the London Bridge area poses challenges to the way the community operates, we challenge that, and welcome the restaurants from The Shard as participants in Festival. Sadiq Khan passed through in 2015: Great atmosphere here at @BermondsStFest! Pop down & support local business. @SadiqKhan 19th Sept 2015
