We plan to run a weekly or fortnightly art club for one year, offering a variety of art activities - crafts, flower making, painting.

We've enlisted a professional deaf artist and a hand craft artist to lead sessions as it's important for beneficiaries to have deaf role models. We will also reach out to other deaf artists. Group outings to galleries and other art events will be organised, increasing exposure to art. As deaf people tend to be visual and hands on learners, art is a popular subject and we have received many requests for this. This weekend we are trialling a Family Sip and Paint party which is fully booked. This project will break barriers for deaf people entering into the art world and open the door for more opportunities. Deaf people suffer disproportionately with mental ill health and by offering opportunities to engage in creative and artistic activities, this will improve.

Why it's a great idea:
Deaf people struggle disproportionately with their mental health, due to communication barriers and lack of access to services. Offering deaf people the opportunity to engage in creative and artistic activities and providing them with avenues to express themselves will enrich lives and improve mental health. Deaf people engaging in art could uncover a hidden passion, leading to a fulfilling hobby, further study and even a new career. As with all our projects, we will gauge thoughts and feelings at the beginning of the project, through conversations, to find a benchmark for each participant. At the end of the project, this will be repeated and we will be able to see how this has improved.Redbridge Objective: "Bring the Joy" This project is perfect to meet this objective as it will be a really enjoyable and fun experience for deaf people, to learn new skills, create pieces of art, engage with new materials and express themselves through art.

We are a charity run by deaf people for deaf people. We aim to tackle the multiple disadvantages deaf people face. Our vision is to empower deaf people through education and support, enabling them to become more knowledgeable, confident and able to participate in society.
We are a community hub & aim to empower Deaf People by providing opportunities, information, clubs, and services in BSL.
Our social clubs reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and mental health. Workshops increase knowledge, skills and confidence, and we also support deaf people to access mainstream services. We provide advice, and advocacy where needed.
SDEC is led by and for the deaf community, with 4 trustees (3 deaf) and 5 staff. 4 volunteers
100% staff are deaf

25% (1) Trustee is Deafblind with lived experience of the barriers experienced by deafblind people.
As a deaf-led, front-line organisation, staff and trustees have direct, lived experience of the issues facing our community because they are members of that community. We serve around 1000 beneficiaries every year.
Project Owner: Suvai Deaf East Community The Project Owner takes legal responsibility for receiving and spending the funds raised and ensuring the project is delivered.
