We hope to celebrate the turning on of the Christmas lights, then to launch community parties in the following days.
Three years ago, the association purchased Christmas lights to put up on the lamposts throughout the villages in Almondbury and Lepton. To celebrate their return each year, we have enlarged the christmas light switch on with a street party. We close the roads, hire live music, provide food and drink, through local businesses. As well as ths, we arrange for Father Christmas to appear on his sleigh for the children to enjoy. We plan to have stalls and shops specially opening for the event, in Almondbury and Lepton towards the middle of November this year. This has created a festive atmosphere for all the community to enjoy last year, and we feel sure that it will have the same impact this time around.

We believe events like these are essential to foster a sense of belonging in our community. Local people have come to speak to us after previous Christmas light events, and thanked us for running them, as these two communities rarely have events which bring together the local community. We anticipate this event will create alot of excitment and a festive atmosphere. It is also an opportunity for local businesses to provide indoor and outdoor stalls, and for local shops and businesses to extend their opening hours, creating a real boost for them leading up to Christmas. We have had very positive feedback on the impact these events have made on the small local businesses. These events see over 30 local volunteers turn up to marshal the celebration, including local councilers and members of other voluntary groups who recognise the significance of the event. There will be singing, dancing, mince pies, hot chocolate, and it is the closest Almondbury and Lepton will get to Glastonbury!

VolunteerAlmondbury, Lepton and Fenay Bridge business and community association has been established for over four years, with our main driving focus being to support and promote local.
We are a dedicated group of volunteers who live and work in the villages of Almondbury, Lepton and Fenay Bridge and have a shared passion to support and the wonderful array of businesses and communities in which we are based.
Our committee meets once a month and we encourage people to reach out and join us at our meetings, in order to share knowledge and skills. We are grateful to have a friendly and growing network of committed supporters who share our aspirations for the area.
Some recent successes during 2022 include a fundraising calendar, CCTV for Almondbury village which has assisted police with their enquiries, the installation of a handmade mosaic, the installation of Christmas lights and a second successful Christmas lights celebration event in Almondbury village.
In Lepton, we successfully fundraised to purchase and install Christmas lights as well as organise a Lepton Christmas lights celebration.
During the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee we also ran a successful Corgi Trail, which increased footfall across all three villages.
As a group of volunteers, we rely on fundraising in order to be able to achieve our objectives, organise events and support special projects, as well as cover ongoing costs such as maintenance of CCTV and installing and storing Christmas lights.
