The idea
Our Refugee Week Festival will take place on the 23rd of June, at Lampton Park, from 10am - 8pm. This family-friendly event will welcome attendees from across the diverse communities of London in support of refugees and in celebration of open dialogue and positive community cohesion. We hope for a large attendance as all comers to the festival will be welcome.
The one-day event will be a celebration of the cultural richness and diversity embedded within West London, as well as the skills and unique cultural capital that migrants and refugees bring to the area. Our festival will showcase the diverse cultures of our community through traditional Central Asian musical, dance and theatrical performances, sporting tournaments, a fashion show, as well as diverse food and craft stalls. We will also be hearing from some of our members, who will be sharing their own inspirational stories during the event.

Why it's a great idea
Previous events have shown that, integration and exclusion is an important issue to be addressed on a grassroots level and it is essential that these communities are catered for and brought together to create a positive atmosphere and to combat isolation within disadvantaged communities. Our aim for this year's Summer Festival is to bring up to 5000 citizens from the local community together for a fun and joyous occasion, in order to promote community pride and increase positive social cohesion between the diverse cultures of our community. Our festival will showcase the diverse cultures, skills and knowledge of refugees and migrants, highlighting their unique contribution to the local community. The money generated from this event will be used to help recently-arrived refugees to integrate in their community. For example, we provide free English classes, women-led workshops and legal support to vulnerable people.
Steps to get it done
- Funding to help cover the logistical costs of the summer festival ( stage and audio hire , toilets, security)
- Hiring of diverse performers and sport equipment
- Funding to help cover the costs of marketing and outreach
