The idea
This project will create a free men’s wellbeing group in the local area, offering regular activities such as group walks, workouts, boxing-based sessions, and stretching and breathwork. The aim is to bring men together in a welcoming, low-pressure environment that supports both physical and mental wellbeing.
Many men experience isolation, stress and poor mental health but are less likely to engage with traditional support services due to stigma, cost or lack of accessible options. By using movement as the starting point, this project removes common barriers and creates an easy way for men to connect, build routine and feel part of a community.
All sessions will be free, inclusive and adaptable for different abilities. As relationships grow, the group will help reduce isolation, improve confidence and wellbeing, and strengthen the wider community through regular connection and shared experience.
What we'll deliver
- Weekly group workouts and boxing-based fitness sessions led by a qualified instructor, suitable for all abilities
- Regular group walks in accessible local outdoor spaces
- Dedicated stretching and breathwork sessions focused on relaxation and stress management
- All sessions delivered in a welcoming, non-judgemental environment with clear guidance and adaptations available
Why it's a great idea
This project will improve both physical and mental wellbeing for men in the local area by providing free, regular opportunities to be active, connect with others and build positive routines. By reducing barriers such as cost and stigma, it will reach men who may not otherwise engage with wellbeing or mental health support.
The project will help reduce social isolation, increase confidence and create a strong sense of belonging. Participants will benefit from improved fitness, reduced stress and better emotional regulation through movement, stretching and breathwork.
Beyond individual benefits, the project will strengthen the wider community by fostering connection, peer support and healthier lifestyles. Over time, it will contribute to a more resilient, supportive local community and help prevent more serious mental health challenges by encouraging early engagement and ongoing connection.
