Kensington and Chelsea Delivery stage

£23,500
pledged of £54,103

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Many urban schools enjoy highly restricted outdoor, if any space at all. The idea behind this initiative is to provide these schools with that rare gift of earth in which to plant and watch things grow and to provide the surrounding community that same opportunity during school holidays. Our first project of 2017 is to support and oversee the conversion of Christ Church Kensington’s south garden area into an edible teaching ground that cannot only be enjoyed by the congregation and local community, but also provide the local primary schools with an outdoor learning space. In order for the space to be transformed we must first repair the orphaned asset, the Kynance Mews Wall The local schools already in support of the edible garden are: Victoria Road Montessori, Victoria Rd, Christ Church Kensington, London W8 5RQ Thomas’s School Kensington, 17-19 Cottesmore Gardens, Kensington, London W8 5PR St. Mary Abbot’s C of E school, 2 Kensington Church Ct, Kensington, London W8 4SP

What we'll deliver:

  • Repair the orphaned asset, the Kynance Mews Wall

Why it's a great idea:

Once the wall is repaired the Growing Space Garden Project will: • Engage young people from local primary schools in growing food. • Improve understanding of where food comes from and how it is grown. • Promote scientific knowledge of ecology in the context of growing food. • Inspire young people to establish positive and healthy eating habits. Help to build a community spirit, connecting young and old by providing a space for plants and people to grow in harmony.

Steps to get it done:

  • Buying equipment and supplies
  • Construction of the garden space
  • Opening of the garden to schools and the public
  • Repair the wall to allow for construction
  • Design of the garden space by Edible Playground

This project will be split into 2 phases. Phase 1 - the repair of the wall. Phase 2 - complete the building of the garden will begin. We already have the funding to build the garden and once we've raised the funds to repair the wall we can get going with the project!
