The idea

Evesham Volunteer Centre is providing volunteer drivers to three local pharmacies to collect and deliver prescriptions for members of the community who are unable to do so for themselves during the current pandemic. The volunteers are DBS checked and will be provided with PPE to protect themselves and the public, along with ID badges and official letters of introduction for the pharmacy. We are recruiting an extra 15 drivers to assist our current heroes and this will involve a large expenditure for the Volunteer Centre. The DBS checks will cost £180.00, the PPE for the drivers is £240 and the ID badges and stationery is another £20, so we are hoping to raise £440 to cover the charity’s costs.

What we'll deliver

  • We will enable the supply of essential medication to people who may not be able to get to the pharmacy
  • We'll provide a voluntary delivery service to pharmacies who cannot deliver
  • We'll facilitate safe support to vulnerable members of the community
  • We'll provide reassurance and peace of mind for older and/or vulnerable members of the community

Why it's a great idea

The project will enable the supply of essential medication to people who may not be able to get to the pharmacy.
The volunteer drivers will be protected during their interaction with the pharmacies and the members of the community to whom they will be delivering.

Steps to get it done

  • Deliver 500 prescriptions

Evesham Volunteer Centre is a small charity that has only one paid member of staff; our income comes from grants, fundraising and public donations, often through our volunteer drivers who, in normal times assist members of the community by taking them to medical and social appointments. All of the volunteers give their time freely, but the current pandemic has meant that a large number of our drivers have discovered that they are on the other side of the fence - we are now supporting them! This has meant that we have had to urgently recruit more volunteer drivers - and we are still looking for more to help us!
Our aim is to bring people together to make a difference together. By providing this service we can improve the well-being of our service users and help build a stronger community.
