The idea
Following a successful summer holiday club, provided by sensactivity & funded by #HAF North Tyneside Council, it was evident that more support was needed in term time, especially after school.
Customer feed back, child/parent surveys, and community consultation, demonstrated the demand for support after school in a small sensory environment.
Transport is also an issue. Most parents would have difficulty getting their children to the centre and many parents, whose children were entitled to transport, stated that they would not change the drop off location. This is causing social isolation as it prevents children from accessing beneficial activities and support. It also isolates parents/guardians who are unable to carry out activities that would benefit their own mental health and well being e.g night classes at college, exercise classes or even work.
Our project aims to improve this situation by delivering activities in a safe sensory environment & providing transport to enable access.
What we'll deliver
- Activities: arts and crafts, cooking, dance, singing, drama, mini sports and support with homework
- Purchase a wheel chair accessible minibus
- Ensure access for all needs and abilities
Why it's a great idea

●safely access the centre with transport and escort, provided by sensactivity
●empower parents and prevent social isolation.
●open up opportunities for volunteers, work experience, apprenticeships and employment
●potentially bring more customers to North shields, boosting the local economy as parents may shop or go for coffee while their children are at the school club.
