The idea

All parts of the parish suffer from speeding traffic which has resulted in a number of serious accidents. In rural settlements motorists do not always realise that they may be in a 30mph zone because they do not feel like built up areas. Speed Indicator Devices can encourage drivers to go more slowly by drawing their attention to the speed they are travelling at. A mobile device that can be moved around four areas in the parish will help to keep the message fresh and stop drivers from becoming complacent.

What we'll deliver

  • Safer roads for drivers.
  • Safer roads for pedestrians.
  • Speed data for roads in the parish.
  • A volunteering opportunity for residents who wish to support their community.

Why it's a great idea

If we can slow the traffic then we can improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Some of our roads are near to schools and we want to ensure that children feel safe walking to school.

The device can also provide speed monitoring data that we can use to highlight issues to other bodies with responsibility for roads and safety.
The device will be owned by the Parish Council but fitted and moved by a team of volunteers.

Steps to get it done

  • Order Speed Indicator Device
  • Agree locations and rotation schedule
  • Recruit volunteers
