By Jubilee Park Dog Training Club
Help us build an activity trail which is a permanently built chain of agility elements designed to enrich the environment and provide fun as well as healthy exercise for dogs and their owners!
Jubilee Park is in Edmonton, North London one of the most deprived and diverse areas in London. It is a beautiful park that is dog friendly and kept, apart from the occasional vandalism, to a high standard; it is a haven for local residents. We are planning to build one element as a start of the project. This will be 2 steel hoops with high and low level jumps. The equipment will be made of steel and permanently installed within Jubilee Park. This will enrich the activities in the Park for dogs and their owners which will not only be fun for the dogs but promote a healthy lifestyle for the owners. The park has a unique not for profit Dog Training Club where puppies and dogs learn basic training, socialisation and park etiquette. The Dog Club had the support of the local Council, Councillors and local Metropolitan Police as well as the Friends. We now want to add to the facilities that we provide and build an activity trail.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Our dog training club likes to visit other parks sometimes and we visited the Lea Valley Park in Cheshunt. There was a fantastic Activity Trail there which we enjoyed so much that we have returned on several occasions. While there, we could see the benefits to people and their dogs. We would dearly love to bring the health and fun benefits of an Activity Trail to our own Jubilee Park. Fun for Dogs will be fun not just for dogs but for people to gain enjoyment from their local green space. This project will give a sense of community and bring people together. It is well documented that dogs help people with loneliness and depression and people talk to others when they have a dog. Because there are benches near the trail people can observe demonstrations and competitions the dog training club intends to hold.
Steps to get it done:
We at Jubilee Park Dog Training Club feel this Activity Trail For Dogs will improve the park and spark an interest in improving the park in other ways. All of this will help bring more of our diverse community together. As a result there will be a positive impact on the neighbourhood and hopefully more people will become involved in this and future projects promoting leisure activities in Jubilee Park.
