The idea
We are looking for raise funds to construct an archery range for our Scout Group, to be used by our 180+ Young People.
As part of our ethos we offer Young People a variety of Skills for Life and incorporate adventurous activities into this, broadening their horizons, offering challenge, and learning new skills.
Our Group is in high demand and continually growing, both in the number of Young People we develop and the variety of activities we offer.
Our facilities are also available to other Scout Groups and suitably qualified individuals / groups in the local area, offer greatly opportunities to a wider range of people.
What we'll deliver
- We will construct a ~10m archery range
- We will offer more adventurous opportunities across all age ranges of our Scouts, from 6 to 18 years old
- We will continue to deliver our Skills for Life programme and make lasting memories for our Young People
- We will enable use of this facility to neighbouring Scout Groups and other suitably qualified individuals / groups
Why it's a great idea
Through our fantastic team of volunteers we operate 5 nights per week delivering Skills for Life locally to over 180 young people:
* Beaver Scouts (ages 6-8)
* Cub Scouts (ages 8-10.5)
* Scouts (ages 10.5-14)
* Explorer Scouts (ages 14-18)
Archery is one of the oldest skills in the world, with some arrowheads dating back 25,000 years! It is also an Olympic and Paralympic Sport, with men's and women's individual and team events.
Incorporating archery into our programme will allow our members to not only develop a competitive skill but also improve their focus, improve their hand-eye coordination, improve their upper body strength, develop social skills in a team-sport context, and improve their confidence as they see their skills and abilities improve.
