The idea
Whitburn Parish Church has already installed five community use defibrillators along the coastal route of the A183 from Whitburn Library, Latimer's Fish Deli, The Bay Fish and Chip shop. Th Grand Hotel and Adventure Sunderland on Roker Foreshore. These community AED machines are prominently situated in bright yellow cabinets and allow emergency access to members of the local community and to visitors to this popular stretch of coastline and seaside. As this stretch of coastline is visited by hundreds of thousands of people annually and local people live in close proximity to the A183, we feel that the machines are of immense value in case of cardiac emergency. Each machine has a voluntary 'Guardian; who monitors and feeds back to the NEAS regarding its functionality. The project will ensure that the machines can be maintained, fully operational well into the future.
We seek funding to allow this provision to continue by providing defibrillator pads to replace those used in emergencies
What we'll deliver
- Purchase six replacement defibrillator pads for the locations from Seaburn to Roker
Why it's a great idea
This project aims to help and ensure that the emergency Community AED provision can continue well into the future by facilitating the purchase of new defibrillator pads (CPads) to replace those used in cardiac emergencies. It will offer security for the current provision and will improve the services available to those who use the sea front throughout the year.
Members of the public using the sea front between Seaburn and Roker and local residents living in close proximity to these machines will be able to call upon their use should a cardiac emergency arise.
Steps to get it done
- Purchase one set of defibrillator pads for each Community AED.
In partnership with NEXUS the local bus and rail management system there are notices in local bus shelters along the A183; sign-posting the location of the machines. In addition, Whitburn Parish church in conjunction with NEAS has organised training for the staff of businesses who host or are nearby the machines.
