The idea
We would like to set up pan-disability sports skills training sessions. This would be East Cheshire Eye Society working in partnership with the Disability Information Bureau.
This project would encourage and enable people with disabilities to learn new skills, it would bring people with disabilities into the local community and it would teach basic sports skills that may then lead on to involvement with specific sports - possibly for people who otherwise may never have taken part.
In addition, this project will address the ever present challenges of isolation, loneliness and a lack of confidence experienced by many people with disabilities.
What we'll deliver
- 2 trained sports coaches for 1 hour twice a month
- The hire of a sports hall twice a month
- A range of sports training equipment purchased for ongoing use
- A range of advertising and publicity
- Payment of volunteer expenses
- A contribution towards staff costs for administration, co-ordination and organisation
Why it's a great idea
Benefits will be:
- An introduction to a range of sports with the possibility of this leading to more specific interests and participation
- Physical exercise and mental health and wellbeing
- Learning of new skills
- Bringing people with disabilities together, and taking part in local community activities
- Will help reduce isolation and loneliness
- Will help develop individual's confidence
- Will help raise the profile of disability sports locally
Steps to get it done
- To deliver 24 sports skills sessions per year
- To encourage 100 people to engage in these activities
