By Being Well
We are seeking funding to run our mental health workshop programmes in sixth forms and colleges in Surrey, for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We offer workshops to 16–18 year olds which are facilitated by local young people living in Surrey who are passionate about promoting positive mental health and wellbeing. The aim of our workshop programme is to increase knowledge about mental health, promote resilience in students, and reduce stigma surrounding mental health difficulties. Our workshops are informed by national directives on mental health education and covers five key areas: 1. Understanding mental health 2. Stress and anxiety 3. Building resilience 4. Relationships 5. Exam stress Personal stories and experiences are weaved into the workshops to model an open culture towards maintaining mental health and wellbeing. The funding will cover our workshop programme at multiple sixth forms and colleges in Surrey for the 2024-2025 academic year, including staff costs for a general manager, student resources and volunteer costs.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Our work addresses a gap in Surrey for mental health education in young people aged 16-18 who are finishing their schooling. We recognise that young people require knowledge and skills to maintain positive mental health and wellbeing throughout the transition into adulthood. Based on feedback from students and staff, we have created engaging and empowering content, delivered by volunteers with lived experience sharing their personal journeys of recovery. We support young people to thrive through effective prevention, promotion, and provision of mental health education.
Steps to get it done:
We are a small charity local to Surrey facing a series of challenges as we try to expand our services to support young people’s mental health across the county. As a result of previous funding, we have already seen hugely positive results from our workshop programmes. However, we recognise that there is more work to be done as increasing numbers of children and young people struggle with their mental health and wellbeing. We would be extremely grateful for any support we can receive to help us achieve our mission. The charity founders all have first-hand experience of how mental health difficulties can impact on young people and we truly believe that our work can empower young people to build resilience and maintain their mental health in a way that we couldn’t when we were students without access to the necessary information and support.
