There is a need in Lewisham for more nursery facilities. We will replace our concrete floor with a new soft floor for our nursery and young people which will allow it to double in size

We have a youth club which is old and dates back to 1953 and we are desperate for a new soft floor for our young people. On inspection from an Ofsted official we were encouraged to replace our concrete floor with a soft floor to protect the young children from injury. Our nursery at the moment has 20 children coming along and we can accommodate up to 40 and would like to do this. The local authority have requested our help for nursery accommodation as it is lacking in the borough. We have professional staff looking after children and parents can leave their children knowing that their children will be safe and looked after.

What we'll deliver:

  • Hiring contractors to replace the concrete floor with a soft floor
  • Redecorate the building using contractors and members of the community
  • Use the quotes already gained for the soft floor and research more
  • Purchase materials to redecorate the building
  • Purchase new equipment for the nursery

Why it's a great idea:

There is clearly a need for more nursery facilities in the borough. We have the space to provide it. We have the professional staff and capabilities to run it. We need a new floor to accommodate this and is currently impossible to meet this need and offer a better nursery with the current floor. It will also prevent serious injuries.

Steps to get it done:

  • Hire contractors for the replacing of the floor
  • Hire some contractors to help with redecorating
  • Redecorate the building using members of the community
  • Go out to tender through contractors already spoken with
  • Purchase the nursery equipment ourselves

The local rotary club has also expressed their interest and support and donated £300 towards this. We will also be working with the Ravensbourne Project with is located next door to the Synagogue which is a respite home for children with disabilities. Their staff will also be involved in helping with the nursery and youth club. We are having a community quiz in April 2016 and the profits from this event will be added to our project total.
