YEAA supports young people by helping them to find work, develop interpersonal, practical and life skills. Using the entertainment industry, we aim to provide a positive outlet for self-expression and a safe space to explore talent, identity, build self-confidence and gain experience. They learn about healthy relationships, character and to take responsibility for their lives and others. We work with young people, engaging those from marginalised backgrounds and those for whom their life experiences or socio-economic circumstances have left them with fewer opportunities. Working with community partners ensures that our activities benefit both young people and the community. CLIENT GROUP: Young People Aged 16-24 Who Are: Aspiring to succeed in the entertainment industry. NEETS (Not in education, employment or training). In care/leaving care. From low-income families. With special educational needs, learning difficulties and disabilities. Others at risk of social exclusion.

What we'll deliver:

  • Peer Mentoring for Young People to provide one-to-one Support and Talent Development
  • Work Experience Within The Entertainment Industry
  • Employment Workshops (job search, interview techniques, Careers Advice, Q&A with entertainers and employers
  • Creation of a Professional CV/Portfolio for Each Young Person
  • Enterprise Start-Up Workshops
  • An Excursion to Premises Within the Entertainment Industry (to gain firsthand insight)
  • An End of Programme Graduation Ceremony (With Performances By Young People Showcasing Their Talents)
  • Provide Valuable Apprenticeships Within Our Project Management Team (Minimum of 2 Young People)
  • Provide Valuable Work Experience for Volunteers Within Our Project Management Team (Minimum of 5 Volunteers)

Why it's a great idea:

This project supports young people along their journey to self-discovery. It builds their confidence and helps them to realize their full potential. Enhancing young people’s career prospects increases their motivation to engage in education, employment and training. Also, by increasing opportunities and self-esteem, young people can make better contributions to society. Engaging them in meaningful positive activities, reduces the risk of engagement in anti-social/criminal behaviour and reduces social isolation. OUTCOMES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE: Enhanced employment skills and prospects Interpersonal skills development Life skills Practical skills YOUNG PEOPLE LEAVE THIS PROJECT WITH: Professional CV/portfolio Work experience reference Certificate of completion outlining all aspects of the programme Guidance and clear direction from their mentors about career options and opportunities A sense of achievement, increased self-worth and confidence

Steps to get it done:

  • Engaging with businesses to provide work experience for young people
  • Engaging with young people already in the industry to become Peer Mentors
  • Getting DBS Checks on all staff, volunteers
  • Engaging with young people service providers (job centres, leaving care services, etc)
  • Recruiting Volunteers
