Community cohesion: We have developed an excellent reputation for involving people from a particularly wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, even within a London context. We to promote and support community cohesion, encouraging participants to pull together to tackle issues of concern to them. People who would not ordinarily socialise come together to celebrate the richness. Personal and Practical Skill training: Our activities enable participants to develop transferable soft skills such as leadership, team work and emotional intelligence that are crucial for success in education, employment and in their personal lives. Mental and Physical health: Physical activities are an integral part of our classes, as is the promotion of a healthier lifestyle. Participants will be encouraged to pass this learning to their families and friends. Wider community benefits: Impacts positively as public performances and sharings with friends and families are a source of community pride.

VolunteerYoung and Talented (Y&T) is an award winning not-for-profit company that runs a theatre school for disadvantaged young people for the past thirteen years from venues in Bethnal Green and Barking. We aim to use theatre arts training to transform people’s social capabilities, confidence and self expression and to encourage members of our diverse community to collaborate to produce works which explore the issues of most concern to them.
Through our activities individuals are encouraged and supported to reach their full potential educationally, socially and culturally; the wider impact being the alleviation of poverty, discrimination and disadvantage in the deprived urban areas in which we operate. Since our inception approximately 12,740 children from more than 42 ethnic backgrounds have directly benefitted from our programme. Each week 180 children (aged 3-19) and 21 adults (aged 19-53) take part. 36% of students have progressed to theatre related educational establishments or employment. 135 children have achieved Arts Awards and 26 have won a Jack Petchey Achievement Awards. 294 Y&T participants have gone on to help deliver the programme as volunteers or enrol for other local volunteering programmes.
