I am trying to start a recycling organisation to clean up the streets and recycle aluminium cans.

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

I have the website www.yesyourcan.com and a lower tier waste traders licence CBDL352297. I need funding to build an electric trike and can shredder to help me to collect cans from the streets, local residents, parks, hospitals and schools. I then plan to melt these shredded cans down using waste vegetable oil as fuel, and turn them into reuable ingots. When the community puts can in a bin they get mixed in with other waste and either go into landfill, or need separating to be recycled. This is expensive and time consuming. Why not solve this problem by collecting the cans directly from the source? Obviously I can only cover a certain area, but am hoping that this idea might expand and others will join in around the country. This would be a carbon neutral organisation, as solar power would be used to recharge any batteries used, and waste vegetable oil for melting the aluminium! Batteries and solar panels are expensive and I simply can't afford to move forwards without support.

What we'll deliver:

  • Buy the materials I need to progress with my idea
  • Release plans for the equipment used for other interested people
  • Start cleaning up!

Why it's a great idea:

Help the environment. Clean up the parks and streets. Save the local authority money. Give me, and others something useful to do!

Steps to get it done:

  • To get schools, colleges hospitals and local residents to commit to this venture.

Any cans collected can be sold to scrap metal dealers. They don't pay alot, but seeing as there really are no fuel costs, insurance costs etc there doesn't seem to be a downside. You can of course pick cans up by hand, while walking, but this simply won't get the job done. That's why I have designed an electic trike (like a rickshaw with a solar panel for a roof) and trailer to make the job more efficient. Thank for reading Best Regards Tony Parkes
