WPRFC Accessible Toilets For All

Winnington Park Rugby Football Club By Winnington Park Rugby Football Club

WPRFC changing facilities only have male toilets. We want to convert a store room to an inclusive, accessible toilet for all to use for our ladies, girls teams & visitors, with wheelchair access.

Like most old rugby clubs, they were built for male teams with only changing rooms and toilet facilities for the male players. We at WPRFC inspire to develop inclusivity and rugby for all in the community, to both play and watch the great game. We presently are proud to have two girls teams, a ladies team and many mini and junior female players. We have already converted facilities to have a female shower block separate changing facilities and now wish to convert a store room to a disabled accessible and female toilet with baby changing facilities on the ground floor of the clubhouse. This would create inclusive facilities for the development of rugby and assist players, spectators and other users of the clubhouse who presently have to use the first floor ladies toilets, which are not disability compliant at this present time. The project will support all who use and visit the club in accessibility to basic modern essential facilities.

What we'll deliver:

  • New accessible ground floor toilets

Why it's a great idea:

The project will bring further inclusivity to the rugby game to promote the growing appetite for female rugby at all ages in the community. It will bring the opportunity for other people in the community to want to visit the club and not have the worry of not having suitable facilities to use for the basic needs in life. The club already has over 1000 members. It will support the club in aspiring to have other community groups use the facilities not just for rugby but other sports and community activities. We already support community groups including a cycling club, Brownie and Guide Groups, baby toddler group, guide dogs training for the blind and a hockey club.

Steps to get it done:

  • Complete the conversion of the storeroom to toilet facilities

The club is a community club and actively support other community groups to use the facilities to develop community cohesion with a healthy life style and well being through sport engagement. We inspire to continue this journey through the volunteer committee developing the facilities for all in the community and have further aspirational projects for the club, including a lift, so all have access to the first floor function rooms of the building so we can offer further community groups our facilities.
