Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

The idea of this project is to work with disadvantaged young people to get them on the right track when leaving school around making positive life choices with regards their future looking at employment, training or further education. The aim of the six week summer programme is to do this by stealth as we know sitting down with young people in a classroom style fashion doesn’t work for the young people we are looking to engage. Instead we will use the fun activities as the hook but within these activities we will be interspersed with workshops around mindfulness training, good financial management, CV writing, interview skills, team building activities and undertaking a community project.

What we'll deliver:

  • Six week summer motivational programme
  • Provide fun physical activties to improve physical and emotional wellbeing
  • Provide mindfulness training and build young people confidence and resilience

Why it's a great idea:

We know that many disadvantaged young people leaving school without a defined future pathway and poor educational results often have little idea of what they want to do in terms of employment, educational or training and need help making these difficult life choices. At this stage if they make the wrong decision this can often lead to them dropping out of school or college as they have chosen the wrong pathway or becoming long-term unemployed as they don’t have the required attitude and life skills to hold down a fulltime job. This project is all about getting young people on the right track by engaging them in fun physical activities but then delivering focussed support around employment skills, emotional resilience and improved communications skills by stealth. The programme will provide interview workshops to help you people perform well in job interviews, mindfulness training to improve their emotional resilience, training around on financial management to ensure informed decisions

Steps to get it done:

  • Introduced 30 young people aged 15 to 18 to new physical activties.
  • Provide advice and training on interview skills, CV writting and careers advice to 30 young people
  • Support 30 young people to deliver a meaningful community project
  • Improve the emotional resilience of 30 young people through targeted intervetions
  • Provide 30 young people with the knowledge to make informed decisions about future employablity and further education
  • Improve 30 young people knowledge around managing their day to day finanaces by providing money mangment workshops
  • Provide local students with the opportunity to volunteer to support delivery of the summer programme
  • Introduce at least 10 young people to the geat outdoors with a trip to the neighbouring Lake District National Park

For this project to be successful we are taking a partnership approach with many key strategic partners of Cumbria Youth Alliance delivering bespoke workshops to support young people for example the Credit Union and Cumberland Building Society will being delivering the financial management workshops and Together We CIC delivering the Mindfulness and Yoga sessions.
