As an organisation we have taken on a premises in need of TLC, we will be running events, workshops and activities through our CIC to enhance the communities lives. Our project will be in several stages, the first of which is our large community room which currently has no flooring and needs a paint and some small electrical work. In this space we will be running workshops for wellbeing such as Mental Health awareness sessions, healthy eating programmes and life coaching. We will be using the space to carry out our Community Time which is daily activities each created around the five areas of health and wellbeing to combat rural isolation and bring people together. We will also run our Youth of Wings, a free youth club supporting local children, giving them a place to come together, take part in activities to encourage social responsibility and support their mental health. The NHS will also be using the space to run breastfeeding clinics and post natal depression workshops.
What we'll deliver:
- Create a community space that will impact everyones lives.
- Have a room that will be used by external service providers such as breastfeeding clinics and health visitors.
- Run workshops to enhance peoples lives and combat issues at their earliest stage using voluntary counsellors.
Why it's a great idea:
The community room in our building is very much needed. We know this from consultations we have done in the community. We want to be able to offer the community workshops, activities and events that will benefit them. When we took on our premises we knew from speaking to the local people they were struggling with rural isolation and that they had to travel to access services. We want to offer something for everyone in our community room, from the Youth provision to dementia workshops, a place where people from all walks of life and ability can come to be in a safe caring environment where their needs are being met. Our community room is the first step in our plan to be able to offer a multitude of services and activities in all the spaces we have.
Steps to get it done:
- flooring - community room
- minor electrical work
- painting walls
- radiator covers
We truly believe that people benefit from support of others. Everyone needs to know they have someone there for them. We want to be just that. We are a family run organisation and as a family we understand the impact of mental health problems, we know that there is a lack of understanding still of what is different. We want to break down the barriers people may feel they have and give people a place of comfort no matter what their issue. We will always be inclusive and accessible and will strive to make the Wings Building all of these things.
