At the start of 2021 Windmill Park Pumptrack was in a sorry state, after the work carried out in 2008, very little maintenance had been carried out and subsequently the track was worn out, rough, overgrown and no longer used... Over the last couple of months, we as a group of individuals have come together, in agreement with Cheshire East and Macclesfield Town Council and have carried out the remedial work required, enabling the track to be used for the summer holidays. We have widened the track by 2/3rds, exposed all the original brickwork in the corners and start ramp, we have reshaped all of the jumps & rhythm sections and we have increased the drainage ensure the track is usable soon after the rain has gone. We are now working with the Macclesfield Town Council, Cheshire East and possible tenders to completely redesign the track, in-line with the new pump tracks in Kidsgrove, Comberbach, Newhaven, Reading etc.

What we'll deliver:

  • A new redesign tarmac surfaced pumptrack
  • Low Maintenance surface
  • Redesigned to maximise the current footprint

Why it's a great idea:

The benefits of a completely new designed tarmac track are; The track can be used, not just for bikes, but skateboards, scooters, rollerblades etc too... creating a larger catchment for footfall and more diverse pumptrack community. It can be used by all ages and abilities. Pumptracks are great for fitness, staying healthy, both physically and mental wellbeing. They’re also very good for gaining basic skills for technical cycling and skating, whether it’s for heading further afield into Peak District or to future Olympics games. It provides a fun based community for local kids while escaping their bedrooms, increasing their social interactions and reducing screen times. The new design will be pretty much maintenance free apart from a little grass cutting around the edges by Cheshire East and will utilise more of the inner area of the track, which is currently un used.

Steps to get it done:

  • To complete the tarmac pumptrack
