The UK is in a mental health crisis. Poverty is higher than ever, addiction and homelessness are at an all time high as well as street working, gun crime and modern slavery. Connecting with people through the communities will give people hope. The first interaction could stop someone from from taking the wrong direction knowing we care. Allowing people to have a safe space in the community where they can talk about how they are feeling could save a life. We want to connect with as many individuals as possible. Covid has impacted many lives causing a rise in inflation sending many families and individuals into a crisis. Travelling to different communities daily will be just what some people need as an interaction or company to someone isolated or lonely can be so very important. The community bus will also provide a needle exchange service in time as well as delivering food banks and clothes to the less fortunate.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The Wheel Listen community bus will be staffed by qualified counsellors and travel across South Wales to assist rural communities, children with anxiety and other mental health issues in the aftermath of Covid-19, help with community building, catering for the disabled and the isolated, as well as the homeless and people struggling with substance abuse. By sponsoring the Wheel Listen community bus, you will have the opportunity not only to support this vital and vitally needed project but also raise awareness and beat the stigma of mental health in every location that the community bus travels to. We will be applying for, and expect to receive, lottery funding for the cost of providing the service, which will be free for individuals to use, however we need your help to raise the cost of purchasing the bus itself.
Steps to get it done:
Anxiety Support Wales provides support to Anxiety Warriors (6-18yrs) as well as counselling, group work, support groups, drop in service, hypnotherapy, mindfulness. We also work in the Swansea schools providing anxiety support and education on why we struggle with anxiety.
