We want to support asylum seekers in Cheshire West by providing a range of activities and support from the Unity Centre, our multicultural hub.
We have been providing a weekly asylum drop in, which is purely funded by donations; we need help to keep these going as they are more needed than ever with numbers of asylum seekers in our area increasing. This 'welcome hub' is so important to help reduce isolation and to support good mental health. One of the key things would include providing English for Speakers of Other Languages classes to help them to integrate and give them the best chance of getting work in the future. It would also include a regular drop in where they can meet and socialise with people in the same position, as well as a range of community based activities that we would create in conjunction with the service users. It would also promote volunteering within the asylum community.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We have an increasing number of asylum seekers in the West Cheshire area and they are very isolated. They are often waiting many months or even years to receive a decision on their asylum claim and yet are very vulnerable having fled terrible situations abroad. The project will provide a support service for those vulnerable asylum seekers, giving them somewhere they can come and meet others, integrate with the wider community, learn English and also access our many other services such as health, immigration support etc.
Steps to get it done:
It will improve equality and diversity in the area, by providing support to those who are most vulnerable in our society,
