Started work last year clearing river areas and engaging local groups in Watford see https://www.facebook.com/groups/952293954853968/ I hope to develop this and try and engage local people to get more involved in their local river, I'm working with many local groups, I'm chairman of Friends of Oxhey Park and set up a Community Interest Company to undertake local land and river improvement projects.

What we'll deliver:

  • 10 Watford river clearnce events in 2017
  • Setting up local schools awareness training and river links
  • Looking at the history of Watfords rivers

Why it's a great idea:

Because it is needed and can engage local people and stakeholders, leaving an enduring legacy for the area by linking the community, groups, landowners, stakeholders through the Catchment based approach

Steps to get it done:

  • Having a regular monthly well attended river event on the Colne in Watford
  • Building partnerships locally, engaging riparian landowners in Watford to undertake river improvement actions
  • Now averaging 3 river events per week, see facebook page for details

Control invasive species, improve river habitat, improve water quality, control pollution thus improving rivers amenity value.
