We want to create a modern event space in Ancoats that reignites community at the heart of the neighbourhood.
The local consensus is that Ancoats is in need of a hub for the residents to meet and socialise. This is an opportunity to introduce something more than a bar or restaurant into an empty site, but instead a space that can offer an array of activities and opportunities.
Think an urban take on the traditional village hall. It's about getting people together to share new ideas, be involved in new projects and make use of a space that would otherwise sit unloved. It is also a way to get both old and new residents talking, connecting and building networks.
The space is for anyone from individuals to community groups, charities or local business. And you could host or attend anything from yoga classes, book clubs, art workshops, film nights, supper clubs.....
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The history of Ancoats is one of industry, made up of hard-working folks with a strong sense of community. Skipping forward two centuries from Manchester's Cottonopolis and Ancoats is a quiet place undergoing big changes. We want to be part of those, regaining community at the heart of the area, and putting Ancoats back on the map as a hub of innovation.
We believe we are fulfilling a gap in the city for a modern event space, open to all members of the community. We know there is a huge amount of talent, creativity and ingenuity in Ancoats and we want to provide a destination to let this be seen, shared and celebrated.
Steps to get it done:
Our goal is for this to be a collaborative project.
We want to hear your thoughts for what you would like to see in your neighbourhood, what you would like to attend or run and how you envisage the future of your community. Maybe you would like to donate some time or resources to the launch of the project or meet us for a chinwag - we want to hear from you!
Finally, we need a name and we think it should be our community that finds it for us, after all this is your space. Give us your suggestions and we might well pick yours to go up in lights.
Watch this space...
