We propose to build a war memorial in the grounds of Finchley Memorial Hopital to list the 1300 names of the members of the armed forces killed in active service in both world wars from Finchley.

There is no existing comprehensive War Memorial for those who gave their Iives in this area unlike those throughout the rest of the Country. We have a design for the Memorial and permission from the hospital we are in the process of finalising planning permission from LB Barnet. Given that it is a Memorial Hospital this is the obvious place for the names to be displayed but we currently have no funding to do so. The memorial will be located in a quiet garden area where it will become a place for reflection, a local cultural asset and a point of education for the younger generation. It will be constructed from brown polished granite with all the names added in gold leaf. A truly magnificent piece of art work to reflect the significance of those from Finchley who gave all that they had, they made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in a Free and Peaceful Country.. All that they had left was their names. A list of those names depicts the enormity of the losses of War.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Now is the time for these men to be recognised in the lifetime of their direct descendants. We have successfully had plaques added to memorials in New Barnet, East Barnet and Hendon but there is still no recognition for the men of FInchley. We have experience in delivering these projects locally and a local company (Robertsons memorials of Finchley) have produced a design and are lined up to implement this.
Steps to get it done:
It is nearly 100 years since the Great War and we need to honour, commemorate and remember these men by listing their names for all to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice given.
