This project aims to transform the Bullcroft park from an under-utilised green space into a park that is used and enjoyed by all ages - a community hub where people can meet, play, do sport and socialise. The project will be delivered in 3 phases: 1. New play equipment for all ages and abilities sited together in a sunnier area of the park. 2. A new community building next to the play equipment that will house a café, toilets, community hire room and new changing rooms for the Youth football club. 3. Replace one of the basketball courts with a skate park. In addition to the above, we want to add more seating for everyone, shelters for wet weather and improved paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The new community room could be used for parties, youth club and as a meeting place for local clubs. Having had little investment in decades, the play equipment and buildings need replacing. Consequently the park is significantly under-utilised by the local community.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The existing older children's park has not changed for decades - the paint is peeling off the little equipment that is there. It's a very uninspiring place. The younger children's play area has had some investment but is sited away from the older children's play area which is challenging for parents of children of different ages. The existing sports pavilion is delapidated and not really usable by the current tenants, the town's youth football club. The council has identified that there is a shortage of play equipment for older children in the town: indeed facilities for young people have been on the decline over the years, with closure of the youth club, removal of 2 other play parks and a skate park. Currently families choose to get in their cars and leave the town to enjoy the far superior play facilities in the surrounding towns and villages. Not only does it cause unnecessary pollution but it prevents local families from connecting. This project will connect people.
