Our charity supports kidney patients to lead a better quality of life by improving emotional and physical wellbeing, we believe a Walking for Health Group combats both, emotional and physical wellbeing, by brining together Volunteer Kidney Patients to facilitate the walking groups, and encouraging walking and talking to their peers. Kidney disease can be isolating for the individual and their families, a walking for health group will bring the patient and family members together, enabling them to do something positive in so many ways. To make this happen we are looking for funding for the following things: Volunteer recruitment and training: recruiting volunteer kidney patients to become walk leaders and group facilitators; Marketing and Promotion of the walking for health group; Event and booking management for the group; Walk leader kit; transport to take patients to and from various walking route locations; training first aiders, funding for post walk coffee and a cake after their w

What we'll deliver:

  • A team of qualified volunteer walk leaders who are kidney patients and understand the barriers kidney patients face
  • A walking fitness program
  • Interesting walking routes
  • Free transport to various walking routes
  • A post coffee and cake in an informal setting

Why it's a great idea:

The Walking for Health Group will not only improve kidney patients physical wellbeing but it will also improve their emotional wellbeing, building confidence and self esteem. It brings the kidney patient community together in a relaxed and informal setting, walking with their peers will help them gain a better perspective. It will also make the walkers aware of services that the Paul Popham Fund offer such as Befriending and Counselling Services. It will help our Volunteer Walk Leaders identify patients who may need additional support.

Steps to get it done:

  • Recruiting Volunteer Walking Leaders
