There is free land available to the parish council to provide off-street parking in a congested area of the village, however, the parish council do not have the funds to convert the verge into parking.

What we'll deliver:

  • To excavate the area, dropped kerb, lay with geotextile membrane, sub-base, lay kerbstones in excavated areas,
  • to lay recycled geo grid plastic shingle retaining system,
  • create channels and soakaway system and asphalt as per our quote from CDC Buildings Officer, Chris

Why it's a great idea:

We are currently experiencing terrible parking problems within our social housing area Wheat Close. The land we wish to convert to parking is owned by CDC and the Estates Department are happy for us to convert it to extra parking but being a small parish council we do not have the funds to convert this area to full-time parking. This is being exacerbated by Bromford housing selling land that use to house garages for their social housing for private development with planning. All of this results in on-street parking which creates problems for emergency services vehicles and refuse collection. It is also destroying all the grassed verges around the Wheat Close, Kennel Lane area because cars parked on streets, vans and lorries can not pass. Cllr David Cunningham has been backing this by obtaining quotes on our behalf.

Steps to get it done:

  • To get the funds of £12,370 in order to go forward with legal docs & perissions
  • Procure for contractors

Wheat Close was built when most people had one car per family if any and were only provided with limited areas of parking. In developing modern times, more households have more than one car and our little village roads are unable to cope with the extra parked vehicles as they are quite narrow.
