Just at the bottom of Westgate there's a small snicket that leads you down to Magdale along the river home. Follow it down and you'll find a quiet stretch of greenery right on the edge of the village. Used to be a textile mill dam is now a conservation area looked after by Honley Village Community Trust. A lovely place to walk in Honley and it's been protected to keep it exactly as it is for the community to enjoy. The land here was saved from development and is now home to a mix of wildlife, open space and somewhere to slow down for. A bit of what you see here is all down to the work that goes on behind the scenes, from maintaining the trees to protecting the natural habitat. Part of that comes from local volunteers who helped to keep Mantel looking its best all year round. It's a great spot to come and get some fresh air without having to go far. I think we speak for everyone when we say we're lucky to have an organisation like the Honda Village Community Trust to look after spaces like this hours.
