Upgrade facilities at Burghill CC

Burghill, Tillington & Weobley Cricket Club By Burghill, Tillington & Weobley Cricket Club

Over the years due to financial constraints, the cricket club has had to postpone essential maintenance to the facilities. This has been exacerbated by the present Covid pandemic.

The cricket ground is prone to flooding. We need to install additional drainage to drain the flood water quickly. Our ground is surrounded by farm land with livestock. At present our stock proof fencing is rotten and falling apart. We need to replace to appease the farmer and ensure livestock does not escape from the farm. Historically we have shared the water supply with the farm. This agreement is coming to an end so it is imperative we have our own water supply before the start of the 2021 season. At present the surface of our car park is grass. It is also very small. When it rains the area becomes very muddy and slippery. We want to dig out the top soil and lay gravel to the area and also extend the car park.

What we'll deliver:

  • Install additional drainage
  • Replace rotten and broken stock fencing
  • Install water supply to the ground
  • Lay gravel to car park area

Why it's a great idea:

BTWCC is an ECB Focus cricket club accredited with Sport England’s Clubmark award. This accreditation confirms our commitment to being a safe, effective and child-friendly cricket club. We have three senior and four junior teams at the club. We have links with all the local schools and offers opportunities for nearly 100 children, many of them girls. In the present climate the benefits of sport cannot be overstated. We are all aware that playing sport is good for your health. Obesity is increasing in children and adults alike. We incorporate fitness into our coaching to help combat this. For the children sports participation helps with coordination and learning new skills. Playing in a team means learning to work with others and support them. Learning the rules of the game, respect for coaches and umpires and how to stay positive even when losing are all valuable life lessons. By improving our facilities we will attract players & make it an enjoyable & rewarding experience.

Steps to get it done:

  • Once weather improves we want to start installing drainage pipes to flood prone areas.
  • We will remove the old and rotten fence ourselves. We will then get a contractor to install the new fence.
  • Liaise with Welsh water to have new connection installed.
  • Dig out top soil in car park area. Lay gravel to area.
