The unity 121 project endeavours to help the vunerable and needy from all walks of life we are focusing on helping the homeless in sourcing accomodation within the service level agreements that we have achieved through local landlords and other agencies from youth hostels as we have found that their are more and more young males being homeless as well as females the scope of homeless people has also changed and it can effect everyone and anyone in some point of there life.
We work closely with other services such as drug and alchohol rehab programmes, as this seems to be the prodominant behaviour within certain homeless groups however this is a small minority as apposed to folk devil stories whereby all homeless people intoxificate them selves, we have had a good response from agencies that are willing to help them get free from addiction this could mean going as far as scotland.
We also get them back into work through our placement scheme in working with local businesses in offering job training , at present we are going on the street and giving out food bags which are welcomed by all, in working with the homeless for 4 years I have learnt that people dont choose to be homeless its more of circumstances , and the range of people is quite different and it is getting worse.
Our project is just a speck in the ocean but we endeavour to help them we have just started and we have 15 homeless people on our books and have housed 3 into accomodation.
Like any project we need financial backing as we are literally operating with nothing except in using my experience in locating outside agencies that I have amassed over the 4 years. Even from our food bags we are being supported through a local church we need a base to operate from and a vehicle to collect the homeless and link them with various night shelters or the other services.
Our project is needed in every borough as homlessness creates problems for the local community as with drink crime rises and often they commit crimes to go to prison as they see this is their only way out.
Our project endeavours to get the homeless of the street and into a safe environment this will eliviate local community concerns and in doing with a base we can get the local community involved with our project
