By The Canterbury Umbrella Center
Please help us to remodel the garden of an amazing community centre which has been supporting those less fortunate for almost 40 years!
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
The Umbrella Centre is an important part of our community and has offered a safe, welcoming space for everyone over the years. Following the pandemic, people have been isolated indoors so we are keen to develop our outdoor space so people can reconnect and make use of the community services in a safe, socially distanced way. We'd love to create a beautiful outdoor space that the community can enjoy when attending the café. Additionally, we aim to be able to grow fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs where possible in order to add to the food pantry as a small extra for those who may not have access to such things, supporting those in financial difficulty and also opening up more opportunities to volunteer and enjoy all the wonderful benefits that gardening provides. Furthermore, this space will be somewhere families can come and enjoy the sun as well as those who may not have access to any outdoor space and/or other people that can help support them with mental health.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The benefits of this project will be to provide a beautiful outdoor space in which all members of the community can enjoy and it enables certain group exercises to take place outside e.g. mental health and wellbeing sessions, meditation and yoga with weather permitting It will also be promoting better mental health and wellbeing by allowing people to access something within the community which is a rare gem to find and there are very few places within Canterbury which are able to offer such services
