Help us create a community kitchen run by The Real Junk Food Project & make the building fully accessible. A place to meet, share meals and build a sense of community while reducing food waste.
Sharing food is a really powerful way of bringing people together and supports our mission of reducing loneliness in our community. We have planning permission to extend the ground floor of our lovely Victorian building to provide a new larger kitchen with open-plan seating, with step-free access. By teaming up with a range of partner organisations, we will be able to reach out to groups and individuals that are currently under represented. Working with The Real Junk Food Project, the project will allow us to operate a full-time cafe for the first time. They use surplus food from local supermarkets and other retailers to make meals for the community - "filling bellies not bins". We also plan to work with Age UK to offer 'Man with a Pan' cooking sessions and members of the local Home Schooling Network to provide cooking activities for children outside of mainstream education. This cannot happen without your help! Please pledge what you can, just £5 will go a long way!

Why it's a great idea:
ETNA has been running for over 30 years and is already a well used and loved resource in Twickenham. Our project will allow us to open the Centre to more people and enable us to tackle the loneliness facing some members of our community. We have a high number of elderly people within the community and by creating the step free access we can open our door to more of these residents. We are passionate about reducing loneliness and isolation and plan to partner with other organisations to deliver a varied programme for our community. The Real Junk Food Project will allow us to operate a cafe with a difference. By working with local supermarkets, cafes and bakeries they will take food surplus and turn it into meals for the community. With three environmental charities based at ETNA we are also determined to reduce our carbon footprint. The local community have backed the project in recent surveys and votes. So now we need your help to turn it in to a reality.

Two months on with our rebuild project for the #CommunityKitchen at ETNA Community Centre Nu Projects Ltd team has already completed the foundations for the new extension, and .. there once was a kitchen - yay. The roof is down and scaffolding is up! Hopefully the noisiest part of the build is behind us 😉 Thank you all very much for your support! #CommunityTogether #Twickenham #StMargarets
We are proud to announce that TRJFP Twickenham are now award winners after picking up Richmond Upon Thames Community Heroes‘ COMMUNITY PROJECT OF THE YEAR. Do pop by and try our award-winning café on a Monday or Tuesday! Well done to Crissy and Clare and all the fabulous volunteers - you make such a difference both socially and environmentally.
ETNA are pleased to announce we have been successful in applying for a grant for the final funding needed to start our Community Kitchen Project. We are now in a position to start the build as all permissions are in place and we foresee the start date being late October. Thanks to all that have supported us to get this far with our project. The team at ETNA Community Centre is delighted to have been approved for a grant from the London Community Fund for £7,000. The Centre is at the heart of the local neighbourhood and already offers many activities and support for the surrounding community. This grant is an important contribution towards being able to expand our reach to those who need it by providing vital communal space whilst also taking into account important environmental aspects.

VolunteerThe East Twickenham Neighbourhood Association (ETNA) Community Centre was set up in 1985 by residents with the simple aim of improving community life for the benefit of everyone who lives or works in the area. Today, it continues to provide space for all members of the community to meet, whatever their age, gender, politics, or religion.
Our Centre is at the forefront of addressing issues of social isolation, community cohesion, environmental sustainability, and the physical, mental health and wellbeing, in our local area. Open 7 days a week, over 1,000 people (30% of which are retired) come through our doors on a weekly basis to take part in an extensive range of activities, including regular classes, workshops and one-off events, in subjects as diverse as Art and Zumba (and everything in between - see our website for full details.)
A Nursery for preschool children runs daily, followed by a wide range of after-school activities including dance, karate, computer coding and Kumon. We also have a wide range of life-long learning, fitness, health and wellbeing activities for adults.
At the heart of Twickenham, our lovely Victorian building has a hall, another large room and small kitchen on the ground floor and four rooms on the first floor available to the community for hire.
We let out office space for small local charities, which would struggle to afford the commercial rental rates available elsewhere in the area. Acting as a local charitable hub, (Arts Richmond, Crossway Pregnancy Crisis Centre, Environment Trust for Richmond, Richmond Good Neighbours, South-West London Environment Network, Street Invest, The Conservation Volunteers), share rooms, equipment, skills and good practice. We benefit by being able to tap in to a talented pool of partners and extend our reach further in to the community.
The Centre also provides a base for local self-help groups (including AA, Al-Anon, SLAA and CODA) and 1:1 counselling (20% of users), for people struggling with mental health and well-being challenges.
