We got a building and we want to make it to a thriving community space, for the people of Hackney Wick and Hackney (and maybe more)! Trowbridge Garden is a mixture of different activities in one place: GARDENS We have a variety of green spaces for the community to participate in looking after: a herbal garden and a front garden with a green house. We partnered up with Hackney Herbal to maintain the garden and provide gardening workshops. Get involved today!  CAFÉ The onsite café will use produce from the Garden, create compost for the Garden and will provide work opportunity to young people. It will also host community related events such as such swap party or community lunch. FUTURE PLANS- WATCH THIS SPACE. Once we have finished our first fundraising project we also want to add a MEN'S SHED, where elder members can teach younger generations to repair bikes, build allotments, etc.

What we'll deliver:

  • Create a new community centre in Hackney Wick
  • Sustainable gardens
  • Open a sustainable cafe
  • Use a circular economy (using the coffee grounds for compost etc)
  • Teach new skills at workshops in the gardens

Why it's a great idea:

Trowbridge Gardens is located in Hackney Wick and has served as a daytime health centre for the recent years. Due to the use, only staff and patients had access and the public had very little knowledge about the Centre and its beautiful hidden gardens. Arbeit Project Ltd is taking over the building for the next seven years and will provide mainly artists studios in the building. Arbeit offered the outside area to Trowbridge Gardens to use and create something special. Trowbridge Gardens was set up by enthusiast individuals to create a community centre and activate the outside area of the building. This means regenerating the two gardens (Main Garden and Hackney Herbal) that were neglected in the last 5 years and creating further outside spaces and activities with the help of local people for local people. Everyone can enjoy it, it's aimed at people from all ages and backgrounds. There will be gardening workshops provided by Hackney Herbal so that people can learn new skills.

Steps to get it done:

  • 01.03.2019 - opening the garden
  • 01.06.2019 - opening the cafe

There will be also other activities in the Centre provided by different organisations: CREATIVE AND ARTISTS STUDIOS Our partner, Arbeit will be hosting artist studios upstairs and we want to see the community involved in contributing to a participatory atmosphere. There will also be pods outdoors for creative engagement. GYM/LEISURE  There wil be a yoga centre onsite with two studios and some outside spaces. Classes will be affordable with special discount to local residents or members.
