STUDIO GIL is an architecture and design practice based in London.

Founded in 2008 by Pedro Gil, we have an international portfolio of projects of varying scale and typology. We have built and theoretical projects in the UK and South America, ranging from installations, residential remodelling, commercial fit-outs, public realm, new build education to new build houses. London is our base, but we view ourselves as a global practice. This is evident in the projects we undertake within Latin American contexts. Two key projects that emphasise this approach are Flex, designed, drawn, modelled in London and built in Colombia; conversely, we have worked with Distriandina Ltd, a hub for the Latin American community in London, to design and construct their premises in The Elephant and Castle. Recently we have also collaborated with Carnaval Del Pueblo  / Plaza Latina to help realise spatial vision and a physical identities for their spaces and Latin American festivals /events.  Our approaches are thus informed and influenced by these vibrant social contexts.

We enjoy working with a variety of clients, ranging from private individuals to larger groups and client bodies, collaborating closely to ensure a thorough and informed understanding of their requirements.

We place great importance on craftsmanship and all our projects are subjected to prototyping, using materials appropriate for the required function and design aesthetics.

Our projects have been published internationally in the architectural and design press. We were exhibited at the TenPlusOne exhibition in London which highlighted ten emerging and established practices. In 2010 STUDIO GIL was shortlisted in the final three practices for the International LEAF Young Architect of the Year Award, and Concrete House was shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards 2015.

We believe that practice and academia should co-exist. Pedro Gil and STUDIO GIL are actively involved in academia and we look for opportunities to overlap research, thesis projects, and professional practice.

The research we undertake in practice informs the academic briefs for our students, and vice-versa (the importance of craft, making, community engagement, etc.)

The outcomes of these academic projects often result in self-publications which in turn inform the work we do with communities. An example of this is research on the Elephant and Castle area in London involving the Latin American community.
