Help us create the next instalment of the 'Cat Walk', a series of eye-catching mosaics to be installed along Willesden Green's high street which will help link the local neighbourhoods together.

Help us to create the second and third of the series of vibrant mosaics based on the cat designs of Louis Wain (1860-1939) a Brent resident and prolific cat illustrator. The first in this series (6ft x 4 ft) has already been installed in a prominent place and was very well received, a welcoming artwork that greets commuters & visitors as they leave the tube station. Our proposed "Cat Walk" mosaic will extend into various areas in and around Willesden Green. Not only do we hope to celebrate the life and work of this artist, we also aim to create an "art-walk" around our neighbourhood, bringing colour, character and humour to our streets.
In the same way as the first mosaic was created, we will run community workshops for local people to help make the mosaic. The design will be commissioned by a local mosaic artist to maintain continuity and identity of the cat walk concept, but allow for others' input and artwork to influence the final outcome.
Please help us raise this money!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We celebrate and bring alive the legacy of this extraordinary artist from Willesden Green's past and through this, we help define a unique character and specific identity for our neighbourhood.
By locating these murals as a series along our busy high street and in and around the area (2 miles) we will be creating a 'path' of mosaics that can be followed - this greatly helps to connect our diverse neighbourhoods together.
In addition, these mosaic murals will embellish particular locations that need some renovation and attention and therefore help to positively transform the landscape.
The community comes together to create the mosaic and thus directly helps with the transformation of their communal areas. This in turn creates pride in the area and fosters a positive community spirit.
This helps to express our community values that we work together and create a successful and vibrant neighbourhood which offers an engaging and positive place to live, shop and work.
Steps to get it done:
This project is supported and celebrated by the Willesden Green Town Team. Thank you to Debra Collis for helping to create such beautiful and distinctive artwork for us.
The Town Team thanks TFL and General Station Manager at Willesden Green Tube and the supportive staff who who continue to partner with us. Our first mosaic will be sited on their property on 15th November 2014.
The Willesden Green Town Team's mission includes the promotion and facilitation of the social, economic, cultural and environmental regeneration of Willesden Green and Dudden Hill and the fostering and developing of the talent and skills within our own community to this aim.
To enliven our Town Centres we encourage all our community to participate and create local projects through enterprise and entrepreneurship and endeavour - in other words.... JUST DO IT! Come and join us, there is an artist in every one of us!
