More restrictions are being placed upon children's opportunities to play outside in their community and in wild spaces. The current culture is geared towards an more indoor lifestyle. Yet the evidence overwhelmingly shows that greenspace and access to wild spaces and places to play outside are vital for healthy development and well-being of children. The more materialistic our culture becomes the more we need to do to combat the impact of this on our children and the environment. The Children's Wood runs community events and schools programmes which aim to get children playing and learning outside all year round, our events have a strong focus on nature and the community, especially fostering an equal environment for the community.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
There is currently no regular initiative in our area to encourage families outside all year round, and to build community. There are also no wild spaces like the meadow and wood locally. The area where the meadow and wood is located is in one of the most unequal areas of the UK and so has the potential to make an impact on the issues associated with inequality, especially child well-being. Some children who use the meadow and wood say that this is the first time they have been outside to play this year, or ever.
