Welcome to the Cally Market. A vibrant space to meet and eat in the heart of the Cally that will invigorate our local high street by offering exciting stalls in a creative and challenging space .
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
The Cally Market is at the heart of plans to regenerate the Cally, a busy road that runs between the Cally Bridge down to the swimming pool. The high street is a haven of independent shops nestled between Barnsbury in Islington and the new King's Cross development. The Cally has to serve two very different communities of the affluent and well heeled as well as the local population from the high density areas of social housing around it. This project is to expand a community market, situated on Tilloch Street and through this grant project the market fully into the high street through improving its threshold with the high street through creating bespoke Market signage. The market has limited visibility from the high street, and it will be the job of the new sign and threshold improvements to signal the market is open for business and get people shopping
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The Cally is an area that people care passionately about. It has its fair share of problems. This project is about projecting a strong sense of place for the Cally Market into the high street and the wider community. The Market is a flexible space that can change to the different needs of the population. local entrepreneurs can use space to launch products, traders can supplement full time employment, the space has been home to consultations and creative projects. The Cally is an area that has high indicators of deprivation, which according to current figures make it one of the 10% most deprived areas of the country. Bemerton TMO is working with local people and partners to regenerate the area; improving health and wellbeing, creating jobs, improving the environment, attracting investment and providing sport, creative and cultural opportunities for local residents. This market creates a vital launchpad for numerous projects to improve the area.
Steps to get it done:
The Cally Market was conceived of following a public consultation with John Thomas and Partners in 2009. Tilloch Street is at the heart of a section of the Caledonian Road that runs between the Caledonian Bridge and Swimming Pool. There are around 110 independent traders along this section of the Cally Road. The creation of a market space on Tilloch Street is part of a wider plan to regenerate the Caledonian Road by creating a vibrant and creative space for everyone.
