By Ham Theatre
Ham Theatre are a newly formed Worthing theatre group. We have been accepted to perform at this year's Brighton Fringe Festival 1-3 May. This is the start of producing quality local amateur theatre.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Our project is to fund 3 shows from May 1-3 at this years Brighton Fringe with a play written by local director and award winning Linsay Oliver. The play is called 'Why Other People P!ss You Off - and you’re a better driver’ a satirical, dark comedy centred around a group of strangers hoping to avoid points at a Speed Awareness course: interspersed with physical theatre, sermons from a radicalising evangelical preacher and true-life accounts. The cast guarantee in the course of one hour, that you'll laugh, cry and learn some of the Highway Code, and you'll also come away with an understanding of the play's relationship to speed awareness. There are production and location costs once venue is booked, as well as lots of planning and many rehearsals leading up to the show. We require an initial funding to help us pay production costs at the venue and Fringe registration. Ticket revenue from the Fringe will help fund our next performance which we are planning for November.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
A new theatre company will offer benefits to the community. There are varied skills sets, from acting, costumes, stage hands, creative, production, script writing, directing and set design. The younger generation studying drama will have more opportunities to practice and be a part of a great group of actors, directors, stage hands, illustrators, and designers. Residents will have more choice of outstanding local theatre. Worthing town will be able to boast extra activities around the arts and more choice for people to be entertained. Ham Theatre previously performed Arnold Ridley's Ghost Train and Anthony Neilson's 'The Wonderful World of Dissocia' both sell-out shows at St Paul's Arts Centre, Worthing winning multiple Brighton and Hove Arts Council awards. This is our Fringe debut! Following on from the Fringe we intend to repeat the production in the Arundel and Worthing Theatre Trails this year too!
