Affordable, accessible not for profit art in a comfortable, welcoming art centre. Art for all ages from 3 - 93, a place where the community can come to participate in art with others, a place where a warm welcome if always given and a place where local artists can showcase their works. A social and creative space where you can visit to participate or just to look and have the opportunity to chat or just have a coffee

Why it's a great idea:
Our centre will wait with open arms to welcome its community into our art family. Everyone is welcome here, from complete novices to advanced artists, from toddlers to old aged pensioners. A place where creativity in all its forms are recognised and nurtured
Steps to get it done:
Our centre has been running since July 19th. Set up with my retirement savings on a not for profit basis and once we opened our doors, the people came. We have been given donations of art supplies from the local community and we have embraced the community into our family

VolunteerMy name is Saffiere and I have a lifelong love of art. I had been so disappointed that Maidstone seemed to lag behind so many other towns and had very little to offer young creative minds. At first I contact the local council and asked if they could help to create a community of art. I had no response so, using my retirement savings I rented a workshop and using the materials which had been left there, I turned it into something rather magical. We opened the doors of the not for profit community art centre and the people came! The community welcomed the centre and saw the joy it brought to the local children, the centre has daily adult art classes, after school art, workshops and events, all classes are affordable and welcoming and the locals donate unwanted art supplies to help us. For some children, it has opened up their world. They can afford to come to us and have a 1 and a half hour session for £6.50, they are allowed and encouraged to let their imagination fly , and fly it does. We have people attend the classes from 3 years old, to our oldest class member who is 85 and a local art legend in the community, Beryl Bush, who taught art to the children of Maidstone since the seventies and donates all of her surplus money to charity. Our centre is a social hub where anyone can come and have a cuppa, participate or just have a chat. We want to see our centre full of people, all expressing their creativity and all feeling at home and welcomed
