The Lighthouse Guildford

The Lighthouse By The Lighthouse

We want to create a Guildford Lighthouse, a warm welcoming space that shows compassion and acceptance, providing practical support and advice to give people hope and move towards a greater purpose.

Guildford Idea stage

We have identified an ideal property in the centre of Guildford, easily accessible for the community. However it is an old retail outlet so requires refurbishment to develop it into a safe, warm, beautiful space to welcome those in Guildford who find themselves on the margins. As well as refurbishment and decoration, the site will need to be kitted out with furnishings, catering facilities, quiet spaces and more, to enable us to deliver a range of services.

What we'll deliver:

  • Foodbank: proving emergency food parcels to help through a difficult time
  • Money advice: helping people find their way out of poverty
  • Community Lunch: sharing a tasty free meal and opportunity to make new friends
  • Baking group: free cooking courses, learn new skills and meet new people
  • Jigsaw: supporting families in need with vital equipment, clothing and toys for children
  • Nurture lounge: learning to love ourselves and each other, through workshops, learning self-care and resilience
  • Esteem ahead: support in getting employment, supplying free clothes for interviews and interview techniques

Why it's a great idea:

The services we provide give people hope, confidence and self worth. We help people to find solutions to their problems, empowering them to make a brighter future. This quote from a Social Worker sums us The Lighthouse: “The positivity that your service exudes is definitely well received by visitors and vulnerable adults. They feel very valued and cared for whilst at the Lighthouse, like going to your friend’s house and having a cosy chat and leaving feeling more positive in spirit… The sense of community and care promoted by all staff is phenomenal to me and I have never seen anything like it. The integrity and compassion your colleagues at the Lighthouse project demonstrate towards others is heartfelt.” This approaches helps to tackle mental health issues as well as loneliness and isolation. Everyone is made to feel welcomed and given the support they need to find a better future.

Steps to get it done:

The project will have a paid manager supported by a range of experienced volunteers, giving the community an opportunity to get involved. If you would like to see a Lighthouse in action, why not visit us in Woking, were we have been established for 10 years.
